Jorge Bortolussi holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. A multidisciplinary artist, he found his way into sculpture as a child, winning a national sculpture award at age 12 in a competition organized by Mexico's National System for Family Development (DIF) and the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). His work as a visual artist is rooted in reclamation — found objects from the street, doors, wood, metal, boxes, paper, and construction materials are transformed into the medium for his artistic voice. In 1991, a sculpture workshop at the Accademia d'Arte in Florence, Italy opened new possibilities for carving and molding, and in 1992 he studied clay and ceramics at the Faculty of Visual Arts of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. For 25 years he has worked with newsprint and resin, and is considered a pioneer of a new papier-mâché technique. His work has been shown in group and solo exhibitions in galleries across Monterrey, Nuevo León, and Mexico City.
